matching the scale between ArchiCAD and 3ds max/VIZ

Use this tutorial if you are not able to get the right scale with ArchiCAD exported data.
You have to follow these steps carefully, especially if you are working with american units.

In the ArchiCAD 3d window activate File -> Save As...
Choose 3DS as export format. After you press OK the following dialog window will pop up:

Use exactly this settings, even if you work with inch, not mm. (IMPORTANT!)
You can use other construct types then 'Element types - Material', but all in one this setting is the best for the beginning.

In 3ds max/VIZ go to Customize -> Preferences:

Use exactly this system unit settings, even if you work with metric units! (IMPORTANT)
Changing the system unit often results in problems with different plugins, especially with global illumination renderers.
Be sure that 'Automatic Unit Conversion' is activated.

To change the working units go to Customize -> Units setup:

Here you can choose the working unit you prefer. Use whatever you want, it has no effect on the internal system unit.

Now start the ArchiCAD Import Wizard.

Select the 3DS file you exported with ArchiCAD and use the following import settings:

Be sure that you have 'Convert Units' activated! (IMPORTANT)
Choose 'Merge' or 'Replace'.
Thats it! The scale should be fine now.
